Lowe's Home Centers, LLC, challenged a St. Clair Circuit Court order which ruled in favor of their employee, Sarah Brown, asserting she sustained a work-related back injury. Following the court's directive, Lowe's was required to fund Brown's medical care and furnish her with temporary-total-disability benefits. In 2014, Brown lodged a workers' compensation action against Lowe's, which the company disputed, prompting a court hearing in 2015 to evaluate the legitimacy of Brown's claims.
At the hearing, multiple accounts emerged about the incident. While Brown argued she was injured lifting heavy merchandise at Lowe's, others claimed she mentioned an off-duty injury. Dr. Alan Walch's notes indicated a work-related injury that had been symptomatic for some days. Another doctor found a disc bulge but didn't pinpoint a cause, although subsequent notes suggested a work-related origin. Despite conflicting narratives, the trial court sided with Brown, confirming her injury occurred during her employment with Lowe's. Lowe's appealed this decision. On examination, the appellate court upheld the trial court's judgment, emphasizing that provided evidence sufficiently supported Brown's claims.
