In this case, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. appealed a judgment awarding worker's compensation benefits to their employee, Brian Haygood. Haygood was injured while moving a fully-loaded buggy at work, leading to significant chronic pain. He was diagnosed with a partial tear of the plantar fascia, a band of tissue on the bottom of the foot.
The trial court found Haygood to be permanently and totally disabled as a result of his work-related accident and awarded benefits accordingly. Goodyear appealed, arguing that Haygood's pain was due to other unrelated medical conditions, but didn't provide substantive evidence to overturn the trial court's decision. The Court of Civil Appeals of Alabama affirmed the ruling, concluding Haygood is permanently disabled.
