The Court of Civil Appeals of Alabama ruled in favor of Hayden D. Champion against Flexicrew Staffing, Inc. in a worker's compensation lawsuit. Mr. Champion sustained injuries en route to receive treatment for an initial workplace injury (a cut on the knee from a concrete grinder) and sought compensation for both injuries. Flexicrew argued that the injuries from the subsequent car accident did not arise from his employment.
The court, however, agreed with Champion, referencing a Kansas supreme court decision indicating that obtaining medical treatment from an employer-authorized provider is work-related. Therefore, the court ruled that Champion's auto accident injuries were compensable as they occurred while he was fulfilling a work-related obligation.
